Editorial Policy & Standards

Published by ExpiredOptions // Last Updated: August 2026

1. Authorship & Real-Money Foundation

All content on expiredoptions.com is published and principally authored by ExpiredOptions. Our educational guides, weekly portfolio reports, and strategy analyses are grounded directly in the execution of a real-money, self-directed investment account active since 2015.

We strictly separate first-hand portfolio documentation (real fills, cost bases, realized/unrealized P&L) from general financial education (Greeks, option chain structures, risk principles).

2. Fact-Checking & Primary Data Sources

Material factual claims, regulatory guidelines (e.g. FINRA/SEC rules on assignment, exercise, cash collateralization), and financial definitions are verified against authoritative primary sources including:

  • The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC)
  • U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC EDGAR)
  • Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)
  • Cboe Options Exchange Educational Resources

3. No Guaranteed Outcomes or Performance Promises

Options trading involves substantial capital risk. Historical returns, including our 3-year performance vs the S&P 500 and Nasdaq (+146.6% vs +86.1%), are historical records of one specific portfolio and do not represent typical results, expected future performance, or a guarantee.

We prohibit hyperbolic language such as "guaranteed cash flow," "risk-free yield," or "safe income." All option illustrations clearly state maximum theoretical loss, underlying stock downside, assignment dynamics, and time horizon.

4. Commercial, Sponsor & Affiliate Transparency

ExpiredOptions maintains strict editorial independence. If we ever feature sponsored links, affiliate programs, or third-party advertisements, they are clearly and visibly labeled as such. Advertisements are kept distinct from editorial and tracking tables. We do not accept payment to promote specific tickers, stocks, or speculative option plays.

5. AI Assistance Policy

Where automated or AI-assisted tooling is utilized for research, copy editing, or data aggregation, all content is personally reviewed, edited, verified, and approved by ExpiredOptions before publication.

6. Continuous Review & Updates

Educational articles and strategy guides are reviewed on a rolling basis. When market conditions, tax implications, or options settlement rules change, we update articles with a visible "Last Reviewed" date stamp.
